Tyler has arrived

After months and months of waiting, Tyler Bryce Chamberlain joined our family on July 7, 2008 at 6:38 pm. He was actually born on his due date! An on-time baby? He must take after his mommy!

Here's the entire birth story for those of you interested:

At about 2:45 am on 7/7/08 I woke up to use the bathroom, not strange since I had been doing that 2 or 3 times a night. I stood up out of bed and felt a small gush of fluid. I knew I either peed my pants (also not unusual when you are 9 months pregnant) or my water was breaking. I went to the bathroom, peed, and then got back into bed to see if it would happen again next time I stood up. Well, it happened again. I woke Shaun up and we headed to the hospital at about 3:00 am. On the way there, my contractions started and were about 4 minutes apart.

After we checked in to the hospital and they got us in our room, the nurse started the Pitocin drip because even though my contractions were regular, they weren't very painful. Within a matter of a few hours I was dilated to 5 cm and the contractions finally started to get painful. I opted for an epidural and things were easier from there.

In another couple more hours I was finally dilated to 10 cm and the Dr. said it was okay to start pushing. We pushed and pushed and pushed for about 3 hours (I say we because I had a lot of direction and help from Shaun and our awesome nurse). Poor little Tyler just couldn't make it out far enough. The Dr. came in one last time and said they needed to do a c-section to get the little guy out.

Within minutes we were in the operating room and they were pulling him out. We actually heard him cry before they pulled him all the way out. It was amazing! Of course Shaun and I were both teary eyed messes. It was the best sound we had ever heard. After 9 months of waiting and 13 hours of labor, our baby was finally here.

Tyler weighed 7 lbs. 13 oz. and was 20 3/4 in. long. He was wide awake and alert and absolutely adorable!
